Loyalty
Friendship
Intelligence
Trust
When you read these four words, which animal do you think of?
Personally, I immediately think of my dog, but did you know that these four words can be equally ascribed to tons of other species on our planet, and not least, the farm animals.
To distance ourselves from the harsh reality that is factory farming, we believe that farm animals are born without intelligence, without emotion, without a need for social interactions but this is as far from the truth as could possibly be.
We domesticated dogs thousands of years ago and as a consequence of how we perceive dogs in the Western world, we don’t eat them. In some countries it is even illegal to eat dogs, however these are the same countries in which it is legal (and encouraged) to eat farm animals. Farm animals that share the same personality attributes as a dog.
Have you ever thought about what would happen if you interacted with a farm animal? Well it’s your lucky day, because without even leaving your seat, you can find out by watching the, very short and sweet, videos below. Be assured I have watched all of the videos and there are no bad images 🙂
Cows
Pigs
Chickens
Sheep
Goats
All the qualities that we value in a dog are the same qualities that we would value in farm animals if we were to interact with them.
If, in any way, this article has made you think about farm animals slightly differently to what you had done, then please do get in touch. I’m not asking people to go and rescue cows (they’ll take up a lot of living space!) or buy a pig instead of a dog (#AdoptDontShop) BUT what we can do is give these animals the same respect and protection that we give our dogs. We don’t eat them 💚
I agree with this so much. I’m a vegetarian at the moment, and I am transitioning onto veganism. Farm animals have just as much as compassion and love as any other pet. Awesome post!

Great post, I agree that all living things deserve life. Never thought about domesticating a cow though haha I like how you point this out though because it seems like sometimes people forget this. Keep up the great work!

Very happy to hear you love animals Karla… May I ask which kind of farm you are planning to have? All farms I know of kill their animals which is normally the opposite of loving them 💚

I could not agree more! It’s so crazy that people eat farm animals and in other parts of the world people worship or have domesticated farm animals but eat cats and dogs.
I love all animals and I wish people could understand that farm animals are just as amazing and wonderful as dogs and cats. I’ve been saying for years that I actually do want a pet pig. My husband actually wants a goat. I just love them all.

Ahhh Cristina, as always, so lovely to hear from you. I knew you’d feel the same way regarding the species issue.
I hope you guys rescue both a pig and a goat and they grow up being best friends!! 💚

Good point! I think a lot of people do not realize how similar “farm animals” and “pet animals” actually are. Thank you for sharing 🙂

You’re right. I think it’s because of the lack of interaction we have with farm animals compared to pets, also how society perceives these different species.

Thank you for this insightful post! I am considering being vegetarian someday. I think Deacon has a huge heart of compassion, and these videos convicted me that I should do more to make sure both animals and humans are given love and respect.

I love this post! This is the main reason I went vegetarian one year ago. You just can’t deny the bond between animals and humans and their immense emotional and intellectual capabilities. I’ll definitely visit your site again!

I’m with you. I honestly would have thought, dog too. I wouldn’t have even thought about any other animal. That is so incredible to know that so many other animals are loyal as well. ❤

They are soooo loyal 🙂 Animals are just innocent. They don’t want anything from you but protection, food and love. Just like a dog. So sad when people love dogs but eat animals based on the fact that the animals are not dogs. We all have a lot to learn from animals. Thank you for your mega comment 💚

Great that you appreciate the point Esse. Why do we eat farm animals and get upset when people eat dogs? It’s becaise people are able to relate to dogs but refuse to relate to the farm animals – why? It’s a mystery to me… 💚

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry hahah! I normally get people completely dismissing what I wrote and I assumed you just wanted to talk about pets (normally meaning dogs and cats) when actually you were talking about farm animals too which is amazing. Please accept my apologies for the assumption I made 🙂 💚

To be honest, it was just animals in general that come to mind, as all of them should be treated equal. Whether it’s dogs or cats.
Just my 2 cents!

That’s lovely that you see all animals the same. Does that mean you don’t eat any animal? 🙂 💚

This post made me look at farm animals differently, not that we would adopt one. We love our dogs though.

Ah I’m so happy to hear that 🙂 Thank you for sharing with me.
If we can justify not eating dogs, then hopefully by people seeing the massive similariIties between dogs and farm animals, people will also begin to justify not eating any animal 💚

I think that animals are our best friends but for a lifetime. They won’t hurt you or crush your feelings, they are always there for you, and they love you to the end – if someone knows how to give the true love – it’s them!

You’d be surprised how many amazing vegan butters there are that taste exactly like butter made from cow’s milk. In Europe we have Natura and Flora that taste shockingly the same! 💚
