2020 wasn’t the year of vegan… but 2021?

A belated merry Christmas to everyone!

So 2020 was supposed to be the year of veganism. At the end of 2019, vegan foods were becoming more popular, stock prices for vegan food companies were surpassing all expectations and we were at a peak of awareness of the suffering that animals endure. It was a very exciting time, a time that felt like change was occurring.

Then you know what happened.

2020 has been a very strange year. There have been losses, friends have lost loved ones, friends have suffered and there have been personal losses too. Despite the sadness, I’m still trying to see the positives.

One of the things I’m most grateful for is that the world is slowly becoming a nicer place for animals. It’s so easy to think that things will never change and the world will never go vegan, but as long as we are making progress in the right direction then that’s all I can ask for.

I’ll give you an example.

Every now and then, Lovely Auntie Lynne reminds me that she won’t ever go vegan BUT every time she goes to the bakery she’ll try something vegan (and send me yummy photos!), she has given up meat sausages and replaced them with vegan ones, AND she is trying out different vegan burgers (and rating them for me).

If this is how someone acts who says they won’t go vegan, then I’m all for it.

A lot of my non-vegan family and friends try vegan foods and tell me about it, some of them have even completely given up milk or a different animal product. I’m also one of the only vegans I know that have parents who have changed their diet too: Bestest Daddy is vegan and Lovely Mum and Step-Dad are vegetarian. On top of that I have a husband that enabled me to go vegan through his support (and amazing cooking!) and a super sister-in-law that will randomly go vegan for chunks of the year. I am surrounded by an ever-growing list of hardcore vegans and I am so, so, so, so grateful.

So although this has been what could be considered a bad year, I’m still very grateful for the things people are doing for animals and I’m excited for what 2021 may bring.

For the people that do want to try out veganism for a little while and see what it’s like, sign up for Veganuary 2021 where you go vegan for January. You’ll get tons of support and learn lots about the different, yummy foods you can eat.

I’d love to hear more about what your family and friends do for animals, so if you do have a special someone in mind then please tell me about them in the comments section below.

Let’s hope 2021 is a bit nicer to us. Happy new year everyone 💚

Interesting experience Zoe, my late mother was vegan & my step father too. As was their dog Bessie. The vet said she was the healthiest dog for her age he’d seen for a very long time. With more & more products on the market & more places offering vegan fayre the movement can Only accelerate. 🐑🐄🐖
